Boys are 3-3 on the year girls are 6-0

We still have a pretty young team with zero seniors but loads of experience as most of them have been playing in matches since their freshmen year. Girls team consist of 2 juniors and 1 sophomore. They have a legitimate shot to make it to state as a team this year and next year for sure. With one of the girls (Tessa) coming just shy as an individual last as a sophomore. The boys are spear headed by a jr (Tristan Grenead)who has been playing the number 1 since a freshmen. The number 2 boy (Landon Leslie) has been exceptional this year as a sophomore. The boys are playing short handed right now with one of the best players on the team (Derek Chambliss freshman) out with 2 hip fractures. If he?s able to return could definitely give the boys the spark they need to push them into a run for state. It would give me 3 kids shooting under 80 which gives you shot.

The Lady Bucs hosted Green HIll HS, a new school that opened this year in Mt. Juliet. This was the Hawks first game ever in their school history. The Lady Bucs started off slow but built up steam throughout the contest and ended up with a 6-0 win.
Coach John Ferguson said, “Always good to open with a win. We struggled early to control the game, but found our feet in the second half. We still have a long way to go, but this is a good positive first step." Kess Tackett and Meg Fuqua got first half goals as the team led 2-0 at the half.
Hailey Burroughs knocked home a pair of goals in the second half and Nikki Pomohachi and Carson Sisk finished off the scoring for the Lady Bucs. Ferguson added, "She didn’t find the score sheet, but Kiara Berry was a force on her side of the field. Her pace caused problems for Green Hill all night and Carson’s (Sisk) impact on the game was fun to watch. Her goal was a beauty, and her cross to Nikki was textbook. Great debut for her, Delanie Nicholson, and our other freshmen.”

Next varsity game: Thursday August 19 @ White House, 7pm.

Game notes:

1. First ever game for new Wilson County school Green Hill 2. Slow start for Beech, but central midfield of Hailey Burroughs, Abbey Harris, and Kess Tackett controlled the flow of the game throughout. 3. 9 different players made their varsity debut on the night, including 5 freshmen. 4. Clean sheet on a quiet night for soph keeper Grace Lawrence. 4 saves, none troubling. 5. First program goals for Tackett, Pomohachi, and Sisk

Girls Soccer All Decade Teams

The staff at beechathletics.com has done exhaustive research over the last 6 months trying to come up with these teams. The choices were tough but in the end we thought it is a good representative sample of the first 4 decades of Beech Girls Soccer.
We started looking at All County teams, All Midstate teams and All State teams. We also looked at girls who went on to play college soccer as well. Beech only had one girls soccer team in the 1980’s. It was 1986 and little or no info was found after the organization of the team. We found that they started with 24 and ended up with 11. The girls team was restarted in 1992. A lot of new info has been found as far as records and things go.

WE had planned to have everyone in for a game and announce the players at a game this year, but due to Covid the number of fans has been greatly reduced this season. So we plan on having everyone in NEXT fall for proper salute and introductions for being named to the All Decade teams.! This will give everyone a whole year to make plans!! We are very sorry about this as well… go to beechathletics.com to see the announcement!

We started looking at All County teams, All Midstate teams and All State teams. In some cases we had to look at number of individual game performances to seperate players. BHS has been very fortunate to have had some great coaches and players since day 1.
Not many schools have a coach, like Bob Cummings, who had coached in the SEC, ACC and in the NFL. We have had several all state players including 7 running backs, 4 linebackers, 2 defensive backs and a kick returner.
