Bucs fall 3-2 to Station Camp

Station Camp used 2 first inning runs to hold off the Bucs 3-2 in the first game of the two game series at BHS last night. Brady Haris lead of the game with and opposite field HR that just barely cleared the 315 sign down the rf line.

The second hitter for Camp, Hunter Lautzenheiser, walked and stole second, advanced to third on an error on catcher Jackson Bryan’s wild trhrow to second base. He later scored on a wild pitch to give the Bison a 2-0 lead before Beech even picked up a bat. Geting out of the first half inning has been a huge problem throughout the season for the team and it reared it’s ugly head again last night.

The Bucs got one back in the third after two consecutive walks Caden Cutrell’s sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and thrd base with one out. After a Connor Ward walk the bases were loaded. Jackson Bryan struck out and Z Anderson was hit by a pitch to score Haven Mangrum. Drew Robertson grounded out to end the inning.

The Bucs failed to capitalize again in the 4th as Kannon Lewis and Cutrell singled and were sacrificed over by Connor Ward. Once again the Bucs failed to get a hit with runners in scoring position and trailed 2-1 after 4.

In the fifth, Beech had runners on first and second but again failed to capitalize. In the bottom of the sixth Cutrell lead off with a hit by pitch and Ward sacrifice bunt was successful. Pinch runner Bradley Wheeler took advantage of the Bison not holding him on very well and stole third base and scored when nobody covered 3b and catcher L Smith’s throw sailed into left field. The game was tied at 2 and momentum had shifted.

Momentum is a funny thing, sometimes you lose it quickly and the Bucs did when SC’s 7th inning came around. It started well with a strikeout, but then a walk and a single and boom…. TROUBLE…. then an infield hit and the bases were loaded. Momentum where are you? A Brady Harris line drive (sac fly) scored Cooper Jackson and the Camp led 3-2.

The Bucs could not muster any offense and lost 3-2. Matt Riley pitched well, allowing 6 hits while striking out 8 but walked 4 SC batters (1 intentional) of which, two scored. SC starter Ryan Ginther lasted only 1.2 innings as he had trouble throwing strikes. He was replaced by Jalen HIrtz who threw well. HIrtz allowed 4 hits and struck out 4 batters. Most of the strike outs occured when Beech had runners on second and third ready to score. Big time punch outs for him.
