XC wins Region Championship

For the first time in Beech history, the cross country teams won both the boys and girls crosscountry Region 5 Championship. The boy’s team scored 38 points to defeat Green Hill by 33points, with Rossview placing third. Beech won by 28 points, with Green Hill finishing second,with Wilson Central third on the girl’s side.The top Beech finishers were freshman Gabriel Cox, who placed third in a time of 16:28, andfreshman Zaely Tilt who placed fourth in 20:37.The girl’s team was boosted by the return of Kim Roundy, who has missed the last severalmeets due to injury. ""I was nervous before the race,"" Roundy said. But when it came time torace, I pushed through everything and was surprised by the outcome. We couldn’t have done itwithout everyone giving their all.""""It was a great opportunity to where we were looking before the State Meet. Our entire team putup a good fight and competed for every spot we earned,"" Spencer Abbey said.Coach Wietecha was pleased with the performances of both teams. ""We talked about winningboth titles, but our focus is always to compete to the best of our ability and see where wefinished after the dust settled. This gives both teams a lot of momentum going into next week’sState Championships.""The Buccaneers finish their season on November 8th at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.The girl’s race at 10:00am with the boys competing at 10:40am.
