Beech outruns Lavergne 48-22

Shackle Island – The Beech Buccaneer football team took advantage fo a slow start by the Wolverines to jump out to a quick 6-0 lead just a minute and a half into the game. The extra point hit the cross bar and was no good.
The Bucs held Lavergne again and took the ball back at their own 44 with 6:24 left in the first quarter. Patick Hill punched it in from the two yard line and Beech was up 13-0. The big play of the drive was a 25 Tyard pass from Xavier Jones to Adrian Johnson.
Lavergne was forced to punt again and after a personal foul during the return Beech had the ball at the Wolverine 15 yard line. Three plays later Adrian Johnson busted through from one yard out and it was 20-0 with 1:43 left in the opening quarter. “They came out much better prepared and ready to play, our special teams weren’t good, too many penalties, field position, we just have to clean up some things in practice and get better,” said Lavergne coach Mike Woodward.
After another Lavergne punt, Jones was intercepted by Chris King who returned it 8 yards to the 29 and the Wolverines took posession with 11 minutes left in the half. After the Wolverines got their first first down, QB Lavandrea Webb threw a 55 yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Banner who was wide open deep down the middle of the field. 20-7 Beech.
The Bucs answered with a 75 yard drive ending on a Tysean Jefferson 10 yard run for a touchdown, 27-7 Beech. Beech held the Lavergne offense again and prompty tossed a 55 yard touchdown pass from Jones to Zac Oden with 0:51 left in the half. 34-7 Beech at the half.
Beech coach Anthony Crabtree was pleased with his team’s play, “we took advantage of good field position all night and really I thought our defense played well. Kanon Lewis got better tonight, I thought he played a good game.”
Beech took the second half kickoff and drove 77 yards capped off by a Jefferson 12 yard run, 41-7 Bucs. Essentially that was the ball game. Both teams began to substitute to get players some game time.
Lavergne added a 25 yard TD pass to Kavian Taylor at 9:45 and a 58 yard TD pass to Banner at 6:43, his second of the game, to end the Wolverine scoring. Beech added a 25 yard TD pass to Andrew Paige with 2:30 left to end the scoring at 48-22.
Lavergne will travel to Lebanon next week while Beech will host Hendersonville in the “Battle for Drakes Creek”.
