Lady Bucs Overwhelm HHS
Hendersonville – The Lady Bucs kept their 9-AAA unbeaten streak alive, improving to 17-1 and 7-0 with a 68-41 win over the Lady Commandos on Tuesday evening.
Hendersonville kept the game close for a quarter and a half before the Beech defense came alive with several steals which turned into layups or foul shots. Beech made 12-14 from the charity stripe and led 34-20 at the half. Mia Dean and De’Shiya Hoosier led the charge the Lady Bucs in the first half.
Beech coach Kristi Utley said, “We came out and jumped on them and got some easy baskets tonight. I don’t think we did real well versus their zone, but it’s good to play against teams who do that to get experience with it.”
“We knew were playing a very good basketball team tonight. We tried to slow it down in the first half and had some success early. We had just a few mistakes and they are so good at crashing the boards,” said Hendersonville coach John Filson.
In the second half, the Beech defense overwhelmed the Lady Commandos. The Lady Bucs did not allow a point in the third quarter and put the game away, leading 48-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
Filson added, “I was proud of how we bounced back in the fourth quarter having not scored a point in the third. The kids played hard and they didn’t give up, I was proud of their effort tonight. They (Beech) are so poised and experienced and play at a very high level.”
Both coaches emptied their benches in the fourth quarter and the Lady Bucs cruised to the victory. “We played good defense tonight and we are just trying to get better every day,” added Utley.
