Lady Bucs Swat Yellow Jackets
Lady Bucs Swat Yellow Jackets 8-1
HENDERSONVILLE – The Beech Lady Buc (4-5/2-0) soccer team came out firing again and for the second straight game scored in the first minute of the contest. This time JC Swafford heads one in the right corner just past a diving Yellow Jacket goalie to give the Bucs the 1-0 lead.
Trying to improve on their pace of play and passing tonight, the Lady Bucs manhandled the Jackets and completely controlled possession the entire first half. Jordan Mueller got in on the scoring just three minutes later with a rocket from thirty yards out to make it 2-0 and the route was on.
“The stretches of play tonight where we played unselfish and attractive soccer were longer tonight and some of how we played had nothing to do with the opponent. When you play well it doesn’t really matter who you’re playing against, and we’ll take a district win any time we can get one”, said Beech HC John Ferguson.
Sydney Sandefur sent a nice pass across the middle to JC Swafford to make it 3-0 Lady Bucs 14 minutes in to the half and shortly afterward two freshmen connected for a goal as Meg Fuqua sent a pass to Emma Robertson to make it 4-0.
Springfield managed to get the ball across midfield a couple of times in the next 10 minutes and capitalized on a foul as Molly Smith knocked home a free kick from about 25 yards out to make it 4-1 Lady Bucs with 15 minutes left in the first half.
Ferguson praised Springfield for their work ethic saying, “I thought Springfield ran hard, played hard and they seem to be looking for that initial spark to get them going. They’ll be good in the future.”
Lady Buc freshman, Chloe Anderson, added two more goals in the first half to give the Bucs a 6-1 half time lead. Coach Ferguson continued mixing in his younger players in with the more experienced girls to give them some much needed varsity competition.
“it was good to get some of the younger players in to see the pace of play and just how fast they have to play in a varsity game, so that was a good thing” , added Ferguson. Coach Ferguson had high praise for his senior midfielder Kendra Mueller tonight. “I thought Kendra Mueller did a great job of getting her teammates involved in a game where really she could have just taken over and that was great to see.”
When the second half began the Yellow Jackets picked up their pressure and got the ball across midfield a few more times and the score remained the same until Hailey Burroughs spotted Kendra Mueller just inside the 18 box to make it 7-1. Burroughs finished off the scoring with a nice laser guided missile from 18 yards out with 15 minutes left to make it 8-1.
The Lady Bucs will host White House Heritage HS next Thursday at 7pm. Springfield (2-3-2/0-3) will host East Robertson next Tuesday at 5pm.
