image Beech got off to a fast start last night, as Brian Colon recovered the opening kickoff at the 19 yard line and Kaemon Dunlap took the first handoff and busted into the end zone on a run to the left. And just as quickly, Columbia scored on its first play from scrimmage, a 75 yard run by QB Darien Davis to tie the game. So for a brief time just about everyone in attendance thought it was going to be a shootout. The Bucs scored again on its next possession as Nelson Smith connected with Dyilin Hoosier on a 33 yard TD pass with 9:43 left in the first quarter. The quick strike Buc offense hit pay dirt again as Smith connected with Eric Hogan on a 17 yard TD pass to make it 21-7 with 1:39 left in the first quarter. It looked like the Bucs would blow out the Lions when Dunlap raced 36 yards for a TD with 9:03 left in the half. Columbia tried a fake punt and failed to make the first down resulting in the short field TD. Columbia went down and scored fairly quickly to cut the lead to 28-13 as the extra point was blocked. On the ensuing kickoff the Bucs were in onside kick return and Columbia pooched it into the corner where Dyilin Hoosier picked it up and weaved his way up the Columbia sideline for a 95 yard TD return to promptly put the Bucs up 35-13 at the half. The second half opened with a Hoosier 60 yard kickoff return and the Bucs again scored on a Dunlap run from 6 yards out to go up 42-13. Dunlap scored his fourth TD with 8:52 left in the third on a 29 yard run off left tackle and that was effectively the ball game at 49-13. Columbia rallied furiously and scored a couple TD’s to cut the lead and final score to 49-27. The Bucs now await tonight’s (Friday 11/3) game between Shelbyville and Hillsboro to see who they will play next week.
