Bucs Rally; Defeat Burro's
Homecoming 2017 opened with Savannah Jarrett winning the crown. Later, the Bucs had to come from behind, but they may have won the crown as well. With one tough Region 6-5A game remaining (Gallatin) the Buccaneer football team has put itself in prime position to become the regular season champion.
The Bucs took the opening kickoff and went 61 yards with Kaemon Dunlap finishing the final 17 with a TD run. Hillsboro answered on a 9 yard TD run by Jacob Frazier to quickly tie the game at 7. Early in the 2nd quarter, Frazier scored again as Burro QB scrambled around and found Frazier wide open along the sideline for a 57 catch and run TD to put them up 14-7 going into halftime. Beech dodged a bullet on a turnover in the 2nd quarter by holding Hillsboro on 4 downs. That turned out to be the turning point in the game.
The second half opened with the Buc defense forcing Hillsboro to punt and a Dunlap 45 yard TD run to tie the game at 14. Each team continued to move the ball into the others territory only to stop themselves on mistakes or have the other team make a big play on 3rd down situations. After a 63 yard Hillsboro punt left the Bucs starting 95 yards away, the BHS offense marched down the field and Dunlap ran it in from 3 yards out to give the Bucs a 20-14 lead. The PAT was blocked and just about everyone in the stadium wondered if that block would come back to haunt the Shackle Islanders.
Fortunately it did not. Beech held the Burro’s out of the end zone and the game ended on a Ty Dean interception and the Bucs improved to 7-0/3-0. The Bucs will host Station Camp next Friday at 7pm before a week off during fall break.
