Lady Buc Soccer vs White House ends in TIE
Last night’s girls soccer match was for the district title in theory. Both teams were undefeated in 9AA play and heading into the game the Lady Bucs hadn’t lost in a month (Aug. 26th). That didn’t change, After 80 minutes of play the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
9AA has no regular season tiebreaker… no overtime… no golden goal… no PK’s, so nothing was settled last night heading into the final week of the regular season. The Lady Bucs still have Portland left on the district schedule next Tuesday and must win to remain tied atop league standings. The Panthers lost to WH-Heritage earlier and have to play White House on Monday before our game on Tuesday so they have a tough road ahead.
The @Beech Patrol was in rare form last night keeping the crowd pumped up and encouraging the girls to give their best effort. After falling behind 2-0 at halftime it did not look good for the Lady Bucs. However, a WH foul in the box allowed the “Nat” to knock home a PK and get the Lady Bucs within 1 with 25 minutes left in the game. That goal seemed to ignite both the team and the fans and lead to a goal scoring frenzy over the next few minutes of the game.
At 21:49 the Lady Bucs scored on a corner kick which was attributed to bouncing off a WH player to tie the game at 2. Just 3 minutes later Lankster knocked home a free kick from 25 yards out, taking advantage of yet another foul in the box to give the Lady Bucs a 3-2 lead with 18 minutes left.
Both teams continued to fight hard and scramble and the Blue Devils knocked one off the post and in to tie the game at 3 with 8 minutes remaining. The rest of the game continued at a fast and furious pace until the final whistle blew. The Lady Bucs are now 9-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 (first place) in 9AA.
Coach Cooke added, “we played the first half very tight and got down. At the half we calmed down and made a couple of changes and the girls responded very well. I was very proud of how we fought back in the 2nd half and very encouraged on how we can play going forward.”
The Lady Bucs will travel to HHS on Thursday to take on the dark side…. 7pm. The Commandos tied Station Camp 0-0 last night. Should be a very good game. As is customary, the Commando’s will have a PINK out for the game supporting cancer research!!
