Lady Buc Soccer shuts out Gallatin
The Lady Bucs traveled to Gallatin HS on Wednesday to make up a game which had been rained out last week. The game was rather sluggish by both teams as the Lady Bucs controlled play early on and had a few chances that missed. The Green Wave countered a few times but never got a really good scoring chance in the first half. After a relatively good start the Lady Bucs play was uninspiring and lacked energy. The half ended at 0-0.
The second half was a bit different as the Lady Bucs capitalized on their chances and Gallatin missed several great chances to score, including 2 open net chances. Lady Buc goalie, Savannah Jarrett, came out to play ball but missed and in effect, the Green Wave missed their chance to win. Hailey Burroughs lofted a shot from about 30 yards out which got over the Green Wave keeper’s head for the first goal of the game with about 30 minutes left in the game to give the Lady Bucs a 1 -0 lead. The second Buc goal came with Kendra Mueller finishing off a “pinball” in the box with about 20 minutes left in the game. Burroughs got another goal late in the game after collecting her own rebound which got past the keeper and fighting off two Gallatin defenders to score and make the final 3-0 Lady Bucs.
Coach Cooke told BA.com, “we played a much better 2nd half, too many mental errors in the first. Very happy we got the win but it’s time to move on and get prepared for the White House game on Tuesday.”
With the win, the Lady Bucs improved to 9-3-1 on the season, 4-0 in 9AA play. Next Tuesday at 7pm, the Lady Bucs will host White House HS in what could be the match that determines the district championship. With two games remaining in district play (the other is with Portland on Sr. Night on 10/3) the Lady Bucs and WH are tied atop the 9AA standings. Portland has lost to WH-Heritage, but could spoil our parade with a win over the Lady Bucs.’
